An Interview on Porcelain Veneers

Cosmetic, Implant and General Dentist Toronto - West Toronto

An Interview with Dr. Richard F. Jezdinsky on Porcelain Veneers - Toronto

Will porcelain veneers look like my natural teeth?
Veneers can be made to look the same as patient's natural teeth. However, most patients opting out for the treatment with veneers are interested in the change of the appearance of their teeth. After all, veneers are a dental cosmetic procedure and if a person's natural teeth are of a perfect appearance there would not be any need for placing veneers.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

Porcelain veneers are generally not considered as durable as porcelain crowns, however some of my patient's veneers have been in service about 15 years and still with no sign of deterioration.

What dental problems can veneers correct?
Veneers will correct an unsightly discoloration of teeth and up to a certain degree they may provide a mild straightening of misaligned teeth.

Are veneers covered by insurance?
It would depend on the dental plan, but in my experience most dental plans exclude cosmetic dentistry and insurance companies generally consider veneers a purely cosmetic service.

Does a veneer protect the tooth from decay?
Veneer is not a protection against the decay.

Does the veneer application process hurt?

Generally speaking it is a painless procedure.

How will my teeth look between the veneer application visits?

Temporary veneers are usually placed for the time between appointments.

What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are very thin dental restorations which are bonded to the outside surface of the patient' s teeth.

What is the average cost of a veneer?
Cost factor is always a very difficult question to answer because it varies. Generally speaking veneers can be as difficult to place as crowns or even more so, therefore the cost is approximately similar to the cost of crowns.

Do Veneers cause any risk to a tooth's structure?
Veneers should not cause any harm to the teeth.

How long does applying veneers take?
Placing laboratory processed veneers takes a minimum of two appointments in a dental office and the time required will depend on the number of veneers to be placed.

How many teeth will need veneers?
It depends on the purpose of the treatment. If the patient requires a smile makeover for cosmetic reasons they would most likely need 10 veneers because that is how many teeth will usually show during a wide smile.
