An Interview with Dr. Richard F. Jezdinsky on Dental Implants in Toronto

Is there discomfort involved?
Any surgical procedure may entail in some post operative discomfort, however I never experienced it with my patients in my implant practice.

Who is a candidate for implants?
Anyone who has a sufficient amount of a good quality of bone is a candidate, however results will be compromised by a poor oral hygiene, some systemic diseases e.g. diabetes and smoking.

How do I know if I am a good candidate for dental implants?
The only way to find out is by having an examination by a dentist who practises implant dentistry.

How are dental implants placed?
Dental implants are placed using a relatively simple surgical procedure.

Why should a person consider dental implants?
Dental implants supported replacements of missing teeth are an excellent alternative to the crown and bridge dentistry in the properly selected cases.

How long does an implant last?
An implant can last for an indefinite period of time.

What are implants made of?
Most dental implants are made out of a medical grade of a titanium alloy.

What are the benefits of dental implants?
Patients benefit by having their incomplete dentitions restored to the full function and appearance.

What are dental implants used for?
As already explained dental implants are used to replace missing teeth.

What are dental implants?
Dental implants are replacements of missing roots in the patient's mouth to facilitate the replacement of missing teeth.

How long does it take to finish a dental implant?
Difficult to answer. It depends on what technique of the placement is used and other factors. I can complete some cases by placing the final implant supported crown in the patient's mouth in as little as 2 months. Some other cases may take from the start to the finish as long as a year.

Is there a chance of rejection?
Yes, as in any case of a foreign body being placed, rejection is possible but in my experience very rare.

How long can one expect to be off work for the implant process?

I would not advise my patients to take any time off work, I consider my implant placement procedure easier on the patient than an extraction of a tooth.

What will happen without dental implant treatment?
As I mentioned before there are alternatives to implants for the replacement of missing teeth. Implants are not the only choice. Also, the patient may decide not to correct their incomplete dentition and live with the missing teeth.
